Master’s Program in Political Economy at UEB: Fostering strategic thinking in an era of transformation and uncertainty.

Full scholarships offered for the first time in 2025

In 2025, for the first time, VNU University of Economics and Business (UEB) awards 12 full scholarships to Master's students in Political Economy. This represents a valuable opportunity for prospective students to acquire a solid academic foundation, develop comprehensive analytical skills, and receive maximum financial support to pursue careers in public policy, strategic analysis, and socio-economic management.

Political Economy: Unpacking the Interactions Between Institutions, Markets, Enterprises, and Economic Dynamics

In the context of profound globalization, rapid digital transformation, and interconnected crises—including those in the economy, finance, geopolitics, and the environment—organizations and businesses are increasingly challenged to adapt to shifting policy landscapes and evolving market rules. Decisions on tariffs, fiscal measures, trade regulations, technology, and environmental issues directly influence business strategies, competitiveness, and investment potential.

Political Economy is a discipline that examines the distribution of resources, power, and interests in society. It seeks to understand how institutions and public policies shape economic environments and influence the behavior of key market actors, including governments, firms, and consumers.

The Master’s program in Political Economy at UEB not only provides students with a deep understanding of economic models but also equips them with interdisciplinary perspectives for analyzing economic and political factors. The program highlights the enterprise as a central actor in the functioning and advancement of the modern market economy.

Developing Strategic Vision, Critical Thinking, and Leadership Skills in a Volatile Environment

The program is designed to train future policymakers, strategic analysts, consultants, and business leaders with the ability to:

- Analyze the formulation and implementation of public policies, and assess how tax, fiscal, labor, environmental, and trade policies impact business strategy, investment, and operations.

- Understand the roles of institutions, governments, and interest groups in shaping markets and business environments, including mechanisms for rule-making, competition regulation, resource allocation, and innovation promotion.

- Build the capacity to forecast and evaluate risks, uncertainties, and opportunities stemming from policy shifts, global trade dynamics, and macroeconomic changes—thereby proposing strategic responses for businesses, regulatory agencies, or research organizations.

- Strengthen critical thinking and analytical abilities to develop effective economic and political solutions tailored to real-world contexts—enabling businesses to optimize resources, manage risks, and seize sustainable development opportunities in the digital and global economy.

- Formulate strategic responses to competitive pressures, regulatory changes, and shifting “rules of the game”, thereby enhancing organizational resilience and long-term competitive advantage.

- Integrate political reasoning with economic analysis to design adaptive development strategies that respond effectively to global shocks such as trade disruptions, geopolitical conflicts, climate change, and the rise of transformative technologies like artificial intelligence, blockchain, and the digital economy.

Career Prospects for Graduates

Graduates of the program will be well positioned for roles such as:

- Policy officers and analysts at government agencies, political and social organizations, and research institutes.

- Consultants in economic strategy and public policy at corporations, multinational enterprises, international organizations, and NGOs.

- Advisors in business environment analysis, international investment, and global trade, contributing to strategic planning that helps firms respond to macroeconomic volatility.

- Researchers, lecturers, and market analysts in the fields of Political Economy, Development, and Public Policy.
