Times Higher Education (THE) Magazine released the results of the THE Impact ranks 2023 on June 1, 2023. According to the results, VNU has moved up in the ranks since 2022. Overall, VNU will be ranked between 401 and 600 in the world in 2023. With the list of Quality Education goals, it will make a big jump to 70th in the world, 5th in Southeast Asia, and 1st in Vietnam.
The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings are the global performance tables that assess universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which measure the success of higher education institutions, aiming to build a peaceful, upright and prosperous society. In other words, this ranking evaluates the influence (Impact) and contribution of institutions to social development, human development, and environmental protection.
In this ranking period, VNU participated in the ranking at 7 SDGs, of which 2 SGDs are in the top 100 and 4 SDGs are in the top of 201-300, as follows:
- SDG 3: Good Health and Wellbeing: in top 801-1000 out of 1212 participating educational institutions
- SDG 4: Quality Education: ranked 70 out of 1304 participating educational institutions
SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth: in top 201-300 out of 960 participating educational institutions
- SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities: in top 201-300 out of 901 participating educational institutions
- SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions: in top 201-300 out of 910 participating educational institutions
- SDG 17: Partnership for the goals: in top 201-300 out of 1625 participating educational institutions
With an increase in rankings in all participating SDGs, VNU has made a big step forward when ranking 401-600 with a score of 70.1 – a rise of 9.1 points compared to the 2022 ranking period (61 points). The SDGs of VNU are selected and ranked by THE Impact Rankings for specific scoring in the image below.
- SDG 8: Việc làm và tăng trưởng kinh tế (Decent work and economic growth): thuộc nhóm 201-300 trong tổng số 960 cơ sở giáo dục tham gia xếp hạng.
- SDG 10: Giảm bất bình đẳng (Reduced Inequalities): thuộc nhóm 201-300 trong tổng số 901 cơ sở giáo dục tham gia xếp hạng.
- SDG 16: Hòa bình, công bằng và thể chế vững mạnh (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions): thuộc nhóm 201-300 trong tổng số 910 cơ sở giáo dục tham gia xếp hạng.
- SDG 17: Hợp tác để hiện thực hoá các mục tiêu (Partnership for the goals): thuộc nhóm 201-300 trong tổng số 1625 cơ sở giáo dục tham gia xếp hạng.
Với sự gia tăng thứ hạng trong tất cả các SDG tham gia, ĐHQGHN đã có bước tiến mạnh khi xếp hạng 401-600 với mức điểm 70,1 – tăng 9,1 điểm so với kỳ xếp hạng năm 2022 (61 điểm). Các SDG của ĐHQGHN được THE Impact Rankings lựa chọn xếp hạng để tính điểm cụ thể trong hình dưới.

Accordingly, the final ranking score of a higher education institution in the ranking is the average of the SDG 17 (required) score (accounting for 22% of the total score) with the top three out of 16 The remaining SDG (each SDG has a weight of 26%).
In early February 2023, Cybermetrics Labs (under the Spanish National Research Council) announced the first rankings for 2023, according to which VNU increased 97 places compared to the results announced in August, 2022, from 758 to 661 in the world, continuing to maintain the number 1 position in Vietnam.
