The radiant October autumn is waving hello to the bustling new school year, greeting generations of students ready to conquer the journeys ahead with UEB!

On October 4, 2023, nearly 4000 staff, lecturers, students, and alumni of VNU University of Economics and Business (UEB) participated in a special ceremony marking the start of a new academic year. The ceremony was emotionally charged, instilling trust and hope in the current and new students of UEB on their journey to acquire knowledge, explore the world, and confidently become future global citizens.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from various embassies in Vietnam, leaders of ministries, Hanoi city officials, the management of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and UEB's domestic and international partners. These included Cecilia Brennan - Economic Counselor, Australian Embassy in Vietnam; Hong Sun – Chairman of the Korean Business Association in Vietnam (KOCHAM); Richard Hopper – Director of the Higher Education Reform Project (PHER) - USAID in Vietnam; Ilonka Ruehle-Stern – Director for Asia - DSIK (German Savings Banks Foundation for International Cooperation); Nguyen Thuy Giang - Coordinator of Development Programs, British Embassy in Vietnam; Major General Tran Dinh Chung - Deputy Director, Internal Political Security Department - Ministry of Public Security; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thi Thu Thuy – Vice Head of Training, VNU; Le Duy Anh - Vice Chairman of UEB Alumni Association; Nguyen Cong Ky - Member of the Parents' Council, and others.

From UEB's side, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Truc Le – Party Secretary, Chairman of the University Council; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Trung Thanh - Rector; Vice-Rectors: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Thu; Dr. Pham Minh Tuan, along with leaders of various Departments, Institutes, affiliated units, and a large number of staff, lecturers, and students.

Immersed in the joyous atmosphere of welcoming a meaningful new academic year, the ceremony started with greetings and introductions from the school's leadership, educational units, and notable students, representing Intelligence, Compassion, and Passionate Hearts. This special welcome was for the beloved students, with hopes for a bright and memorable four-year journey under the UEB umbrella.

 Principal Dr. Le Trung Thanh, trusting and proud of the "tireless birds in the sky of knowledge," shared his thoughts on the school opening day: "The teachers understand that future orientation is not an easy question. You step into university with many unanswered questions, sometimes disheartening. However, pessimism only exists when we give up and surrender. I hope you will always strive to cultivate knowledge, nurture virtue, and hone skills. Nobody else but you will take you to the places you want to go, you will answer your own questions about future directions, and the teachers will be the ones to guide and accompany you on every journey."

With four core values: encouraging creativity and nurturing passion; respecting differences and promoting cooperation; valuing quality and effectiveness; ensuring harmony and sustainable development; UEB has been creating an educational environment that inspires young people, serving as a "cradle" to nurture the passion for learning, scientific research, and world exploration in student generations to become global citizens with a bright career future. 

In an atmosphere of solemnity and overwhelming emotion, the school drum sounded crisply, signaling the start of a new academic year, as teachers and students continue their journey of accumulating knowledge, training skills and confidence, dynamically mastering their lives.

Representing over 2,300 new K68 students, Quach The Manh - Top student in IELTS-based admission, shared with joy: "With the desire to not only learn professional knowledge but also study in a dynamic environment with many new knowledge sources, scientific working methods, and many opportunities to discover personal abilities, we have trusted and chosen the University of Economics - Vietnam National University, Hanoi for our future. We believe that the years at UEB will be the beginning of our dreams, storing the most beautiful memories of our student life." 

Not only new students but also current students, especially final-year students, attended the Opening Ceremony with full emotions: "Four years attending the Opening Ceremony at UEB brought me different emotional levels. The first ceremony, I was an enthusiastic first-year student, eager and keen to explore everything. In the second year, there was a bit of regret as we could only join the ceremony via MS Team due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the third year, once again, I was fully involved on stage with my beloved SOS family. And today is the last time I attend the Opening Ceremony as a UEB student, feeling both happy and a bit nostalgic. Witnessing every moment, I feel extremely proud to have chosen to spend my youth at UEB, proud to look back at my growth journey with UEB. This is certainly the most memorable Opening Ceremony.in my life.”

At the ceremony, VNU University of Economics and Business announced the decision to reward new students and students who have achieved outstanding results in the recent university entrance examination, as well as in their academic and personal development at the university. Additionally, several scholarship programs sponsored by partners, enterprises, and UEB alumni were awarded to students during this morning's opening ceremony. 

To mark the start of the new academic year, top Vietnamese singers and artists also came to join in the celebration, offering their songs and music as a tribute to the teachers and students of the university for a successful new school year. 

To quote Prof. Dr. Nguyen Truc Le - Party Secretary, Chairman of the University Council, as a concluding remark: “A long journey lies ahead for you. I wish you perseverance, strength, and brilliance like diamonds. I hope in the coming years, teachers and students of our university will together step onto the podium of glory. And I believe that we will continue to spread our wings, reaching even greater heights, affirming the leading position of the University of Economics under the umbrella of Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
