On January 10, 2025, VNU University of Economics and Business (UEB) held its annual review conference for 2024 and planning conference for 2025. The conference provided a forum for faculty, staff, and employees to exchange ideas, express their aspirations, and propose innovative solutions for the university's operations. The overall goal is to build a UEB that is "decisive, thorough, effective, and globally recognized" in the new year.
The conference was attended by key members of the UEB leadership , including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Trúc Lê – Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lê Trung Thành, Rector; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Anh Thu Vice Rector, Dr. Phạm Minh Tuấn, Vice Rector; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoàng Khắc Lịch, Vice Rector, along with other Party Committee members, Board of Trustees members, Trade Union representatives, the Youth Union Secretary, the Head of People's Inspection, the Student Union President, department heads, faculty, staff, and employees of VNU University of Economics and Business.
Also in attendance were Lieutenant Colonel Ngô Xuân Hải, Deputy Head of the Internal Political Security Department, Major Nguyễn Khánh Ly, Head of the Education and Science Security Team, and Lieutenant Colonel Nguyễn Phương Nhung, Deputy Head of the Staff, Internal Political Security Department.
Rector Lê Trung Thành opened the conference with a comprehensive review of 2024's accomplishments and challenges across various areas of the university's operations. His presentation included an analysis of shortcomings, contributing factors, and proposed solutions.
Despite some remaining challenges, the VNU University of Economics and Business achieved significant milestones in 2024, making notable contributions across numerous areas. UEB continued its leading role within Vietnam National University, strengthening its organizational structure in accordance with Party resolutions and the Law on Higher Education . Many individuals and teams received commendations from the Prime Minister and VNU. The year also marked the 50th anniversary of the university's founding (1974-2024) and the award of the Third-Class Labor Medal by General Secretary Tô Lâm—a significant achievement.
In research and development, the university successfully hosted a series of international economic conferences and forums. It significantly expanded its policy advisory work, solidifying its position as a leading applied research institution in economics and business. International publications saw a substantial increase in both quantity and quality, with 176 publications, over 55% of which are indexed in Q1 and Q2 ISI/SCOPUS databases.
In internationalization, UEB achieved impressive results in 2024, welcoming 347 international faculty and 573 international students for exchange programs, teaching, and studies, establishing UEB as a reputable academic destination.
Admissions exceeded targets, with a notable increase in doctoral student enrollment.
The university awarded 823 academic merit scholarships totaling over 18 billion VND and 95 scholarships from domestic and international organizations worth over 1.2 billion VND during the 2023-2024 academic year.
In communications and branding, UEB developed and effectively utilized diverse communication channels, launching two new branded items: faculty uniforms and student uniforms commemorating the 50th anniversary.
UEB played a crucial role in VNU's first-ever QS ranking in Economics & Econometrics (451-500), a significant achievement in 2024.
The year also saw a surge in student activities, providing a vibrant learning and exchange environment. Successful agreements were signed with leading global universities for student exchange and credit recognition programs.
To provide strategic direction and innovative guidance for key tasks in 2025, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Trúc Lê – Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman, presented Resolution 900-NQ/ĐU, outlining the Party Committee's directives for 2025. This resolution serves as a strategic roadmap, guiding UEB's efforts toward significant advancements and comprehensive development in the new year.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Trúc Lê's address highlighted twelve key directives for achieving the 2025 goals of "decisiveness, thoroughness, effectiveness, and global recognition": (1) comprehensive digital transformation and the creation of a smart university; (2) enhancing the quality of program outcomes; (3) innovating admissions processes and strengthening program marketing; (4) promoting international accreditation and improving university rankings; (5) attracting resources for research, enhancing policy advisory effectiveness, and increasing international publications; (6) further promoting internationalization and creating a global learning environment; (7) building an ecosystem connecting businesses and the university, leveraging resources to support students; (8) streamlining organizational structures, enhancing workforce capacity, and developing human resources, especially high-level faculty; (9) monitoring and evaluating KPI performance via work management software, ensuring a salary and benefits system aligned with productivity; (10) improving financial management efficiency and modernizing cash flow management; (11) ensuring adequate facilities and developing the Hoa Lac campus; and (12) innovating communications and brand building strategies. Specific tasks for each area were outlined, and the leadership team committed to overseeing and monitoring their implementation across all departments.
Following the detailed reports and 2025 strategic direction, the conference included an open forum for faculty, staff, and employees to share perspectives, express opinions, and propose solutions to enhance university operations, fostering the continued growth and sustainability of VNU University of Economics and Business.
At the conference, Mr. Cao Xuân Nhật, General Secretary of the UEB Alumni Association, expressed the alumni's commitment to partnering with the university in building and developing a strong network with businesses. He emphasized the potential of the alumni network to expand internship and job opportunities, creating practical learning experiences that empower students, foster valuable skill development, and prepare them for successful careers.
Following the conference, a ceremony was held to acknowledge the VNU University of Economics and Business's commendation from the Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee for its contributions to the "National Security Protection" movement.
At the ceremony, representatives from the Internal Political Security Department formally presented the VNU University of Economics and Business with a commendation from the Hanoi People's Committee, recognizing its outstanding contributions to the "National Security Protection" movement. This award acknowledges the university's continuous efforts in raising student awareness of national security and maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Trúc Lê expressed deep gratitude for the support and collaboration of the Internal Political Security Department. He emphasized that the department's invaluable contributions not only facilitated the university's operations but also helped cultivate a sustainable educational environment that fosters a strong connection between knowledge and social responsibility.
2024 was a successful year for the university, a success largely attributed to the dedicated work and strong sense of responsibility demonstrated by the faculty and staff. The conference recognized and celebrated outstanding individuals and teams, as well as prominent researchers, who achieved exceptional results in 2024, particularly during the significant 50th-anniversary celebrations.
The VNU University of Economics and Business's 2024 Review and 2025 Planning Conference concluded successfully after over three hours of productive work. With the decisive and proactive leadership of the Party Committee, Board of Trustees, and administration, and the strong support and commitment of all faculty and staff, the university is poised to achieve further success and fulfill its ambitious goals.
