On November 6, 2024, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) announced the results of the QS Asia University Rankings 2025 (QS AUR 2025). According to the rankings, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-Hanoi) has risen to 161st position, an impressive jump of 26 places compared to its rank of 187 in QS AUR 2024. This achievement places VNU-Hanoi among the top 17% of higher education institutions in Asia.

According to QS ASIA 2025, VNU is ranked 161st in Asia and 40th in the ASEAN region.

In the 2025 edition, QS ranked 984 Asian higher education institutions, including 142 institutions ranked for the first time. The rankings are based on the analysis of over 1.9 million academic and 660,000 employer votes globally. Additionally, QS analyzed over 175.9 million citations (from 2018-2023) derived from 17.4 million scientific publications (from 2018-2022).
According to the QS AUR 2025, VNU has made steady progress, maintaining its standing in the three highest-rated criteria from the previous ranking. Specifically, VNU ranked 89th in Asia for International Research Network with a score of 87.2, 137th in Asia for Employer Reputation with a score of 57.3, and improved by 11 places to 136th in Asia for Academic Reputation with a score of 49.9. Among the 11 ranking criteria, VNU has one criterion ranked within the top 100, three within the top 200, and four within the top 400 in Asia. The consistent performance in Academic Reputation and Employer Reputation over the years reflects the quality of VNU's activities and its established brand recognition among domestic and international academics and employers.

In addition to VNU-Hanoi, 16 other Vietnamese universities were included in QS AUR 2025, with two newcomers: Ho Chi Minh City Open University and Vinh University. The remaining 14 ranked institutions include: Duy Tan University, Ton Duc Thang University, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM), Nguyen Tat Thanh University, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, Hue University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education, University of Danang, Can Tho University, University of Transport and Communications, Van Lang University, Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi National University of Education.
