This was the main theme discussed by experts and policymakers from Vietnam, sharing ideas and practical experiences at the scientific seminar "European-American Economics in 2023 and Outlook for 2024: Impacts and Policy Recommendations for Vietnam". This seminar is part of the UEB Research and Sharing series organized by the VNU University of Economics and Business (UEB), with the Faculty of Political Economy in charge of research work.

Opening of the seminar, Associate Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Thu, Vice Rector, said: “The scientific seminar on 'European-American Economics in 2023 and Outlook for 2024: Impacts and Policy Recommendations for Vietnam' aims to enhance the exchange and sharing of growth trends, inflation, unemployment, interest rates, and macroeconomic policies of Europe and America in 2023 and prospects for 2024. Based on this, experts will propose recommendations to help Vietnam effectively respond to external shocks in 2024."

The seminar included six presentations, starting with Associate Prof. Dr. Nguyen Chien Thang’s presentation on "The EU Economy in 2023 and Prospects for 2024," discussing the difficulties of the European economy in 2023 and the favorable conditions, challenges, and difficulties for the EU economy in 2024.

Mr. Bui Tuan Hoan shared insights into "The American Economy in 2023 and Forecasts for 2024". Following, Mr. Florian Beranek discussed enhancing Vietnam's value chain in 2024 through diversification strategies. Mr. Nguyen Canh Cuong spoke on "Opportunities and Challenges for Vietnamese Exports in the International Market in 2024", highlighting the difficulties in exporting Vietnamese goods to international markets and solutions for easier market access, especially in Europe. In addition, the seminar had Dr. Nguyen Thi Minh Phuong presented on "Friend-shoring, de-risking, self-reliance: main trends in global supply chain strategy in 2024", analyzing the impact on the global economy and supply chains in 2024.

Lastly, Dr. Nguyen Duc Bao with the presentation on "The Prospects of a 'Soft Landing' for the World Economy" and shared international expert opinions on the 2024 economic forecasts for Europe and America based on the international scholarly network of the University.

The seminar also had the Q&A section with questions and discussions from the audience and experts from the University of Economics and Business, the Diplomatic Academy, the Institute for European Studies, and the Vietnamese Academy of Social Sciences, providing valuable insights and expectations for the economies of Europe and America in the coming year.
