In the context of global educational integration, international faculty exchange has become one of the key strategies of the University of Economics and Business - Vietnam National University, Hanoi (UEB) to improve training quality, academic reputation and gradually affirm its position on the world education map. Recently, Dr. Bui Hai Thiem, Lecturer of the Faculty of Political Economy, has made a working trip to teach at one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Europe - Jagiellonian University (JU), Krakow, Poland and Krakow University of Economics, Poland.
Jagiellonian University (JU), Krakow, Poland is one of the prestigious partners of the University of Economics and Business - Vietnam National University. This is a large, top-ranked and most ancient research university in Poland (founded in 1364, now 660 years old). Many of the world's leading figures in science, art, politics, and religion have studied and taught here, including Nicholas Copernicus and Pope John Paul II, as well as Nobel Prize-winning scientists and writers. According to QS Ranking 2024, JU is ranked in the top 304 in the world, especially strong in training and research in the field of economics and business.
UEB lecturer affirms academic reputation at the most prestigious university in Poland
In the international faculty exchange program at JU, Dr. Bui Hai Thiem was responsible for teaching 3 courses in the Spring Semester of the academic year 2023-2024 for the two Master's programs in International Security and Development (MA International Security and Development) and Master's in International Relations and Public Diplomacy (MA International Relations and Public Diplomacy) at the Center for International Studies and Development (CISAD), Faculty of International Studies and Management Policy. These are two programs that are implemented in cooperation with many prestigious European universities and the Erasmus Program.
The courses that Dr. Bui Hai Thiem taught include:
(1) Course: Security Policy Analysis: The course content focuses on the process of analyzing national security policy through theoretical and practical tools, with typical examples of analyzing the security policies of the United States, EU countries, China and some middle powers in Asia Pacific, thereby providing students with a deep understanding of the current security situation of major countries in the world such as the US, Russia, China... as well as learning about solutions to these problems.
(2) Course: Comparative Constitutional Law: The course focuses on analyzing important constitutional concepts, from the historical origin, process of origin and development of the Constitution, constitutional power structure, constitutional change, fundamental rights and the rule of law. The course considers the contemporary meaning and application of these concepts in both Western and non-Western contexts.
(3) Course: International Policy Formulation: Students gain in-depth knowledge of the process of international and foreign policy formulation, the characteristics and factors affecting international and foreign policy formulation, and the orientation in this course is theoretical and more focused on the process of analysis than on content or interpretation. The focus of the course is on policy inputs and decision-making processes.
Students participating in the three courses above are all experienced people from different nationalities, coming from diverse cultures such as Colombia, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Kenya, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Sweden, Kyrgyzstan, China.
In addition to teaching activities, Dr. Bui Hai Thiem also actively participated in seminars, roundtable discussions and specialized lectures such as: Speaker at the Seminar: "Energy Security in the Third Decade of the 21st Century: Challenges and Opportunities". Also attending were many professors, experts, scholars and students from different universities in Krakow, Poland.
