Recently, students from the Faculty of International Economics and Business, VNU University of Economics and Business, Hanoi (UEB), had the opportunity to attend a special class delivered by Ms. Nguyễn Thị Minh Hiền – Deputy Secretary-General of the Vietnam Association of Foreign Invested Enterprises (VAFIE), former Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, and former Chief Investment Promotion Counselor at the Embassy of Vietnam in South Korea as well as Economic Counselor in the United States. As a distinguished expert lecturer, Ms. Hiền provided students with highly applicable and practice-oriented knowledge on global economic issues and Vietnam’s evolving role in the context of international integration.
The class, themed “Global Minimum Corporate Income Tax,” was conducted as part of the course Vietnam's External Economic Relations, taught by Ms. Mai Thị Thanh Mai, a lecturer in the Faculty of International Economics and Business. The session offered students an in-depth and practical perspective on one of the most topical international tax policies—one that is drawing increasing global attention and has far-reaching implications for multinational enterprises and the global economy.
The class was dynamic and engaging, with students actively participating through questions, diverse viewpoints, and direct exchanges with the guest expert. Beyond delivering up-to-date technical knowledge, Ms. Hiền also shared her diplomatic insights and perspectives on foreign policy, which helped students better understand Vietnam’s strategic role in global integration efforts.
Expressing her impression of the session, Ms. Hiền stated: “I was truly surprised to learn that the students were only in their second year. They demonstrated a solid foundation in economics and raised questions that reflected not only theoretical understanding but also a strong grasp of real-world developments and active listening.”
Student Phạm Trung Nguyên from class QH2023E KTQT1 shared: “I found the class highly engaging and meaningful. Ms. Minh Hiền was both enthusiastic and approachable. Her insights expanded my thinking and perspective, particularly her analysis of the impacts of the U.S.–China trade war on other countries and Vietnam—a topic of major contemporary relevance. I have attended several sessions taught by guest experts, and every one of them has been highly practical and enriching for us students.”
At the end of the session, Ms. Mai Thị Thanh Mai, on behalf of the student body, extended sincere gratitude to Ms. Hiền for generously sharing her valuable time and in-depth practical knowledge.
The University of Economics – VNU steadfastly believes that the involvement of experienced guest experts and business professionals in teaching plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between theory and practice. These engagements offer students direct exposure to real-world issues and cultivate their problem-solving mindset.
In the time ahead, UEB will continue to organize similar sessions with industry experts and business leaders, aiming to integrate theoretical foundations with real-world insights and to bring perspectives from the business environment and society into the academic learning process.
