As part of the Entrepreneurship Governance, Innovation Promotion, and Talent (EM4FIT) project funded by the European Union (EU), the Institute of Business Administration at the University of Economics and Business, Vietnam National University, Hanoi organized a seminar titled "Factors Promoting and Hindering Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Business" on May 7, 2024. The seminar featured presentations by Associate Professor Dr. Simon Jebsen and Associate Professor Dr. Martin Senderovitz from the University of Southern Denmark, and attracted a large number of faculty members, students, and participants.
Sustainability in entrepreneurship and business has garnered significant attention in recent years. Through various national and international action programs, sustainable entrepreneurship and business practices have gained strong momentum. Many enterprises are striving to innovate their technologies, business models, and processes to achieve sustainability in their operations. Sustainable entrepreneurship and business models stand out from conventional profit-driven models by integrating environmental responsibility, social benefits, and economic efficiency. These models are characterized by innovative solutions to ecological and social issues, emphasizing the triple bottom line of people, planet, and profit, and creating long-term value while respecting ecological limits.
Through an active interaction approach, experts from the University of Southern Denmark presented various aspects of the concept of sustainability from an international perspective. With a focus on a developing economy like Vietnam, students from the School of Business Administration, University of Economics and Business - VNU also shared their intriguing views. Specifically, sustainability is not only about achieving economic efficiency but also ensuring long-term environmental development while preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of the community.
Additionally, the experts introduced several theories and successful practical models, drawing lessons on sustainable business practices for individuals and enterprises in Vietnam. In the current context, sustainable business practices need to become the responsibility of every enterprise. At the end of the seminar, the experts highly appreciated the participation and contributions from lecturers, students, and students of the School of Business Administration - University of Economics and Business - VNU.
The seminar provided valuable experiences for students of the University of Economics and Business in general and the School of Business Administration in particular within a strongly internationalized educational environment. The information and content from the seminar raised awareness about the importance of sustainable business for the country's economic development. Through practical scenarios, students were trained in critical thinking and problem-solving skills in the process of managing enterprises towards sustainable development. Moreover, the experts' insights during the seminar inspired and encouraged students' entrepreneurial spirit towards sustainability.
Participating in the seminar is a fantastic opportunity for students to meet, learn from, and gain access to the latest perspectives on sustainable business from international experts. With the benefits it brings, it is hoped that the cooperative relationship between the University of Economics and Business, VNU, and the experts within the EM4FIT project framework will continue to be promoted in the future.
