Over the years, the Department of Economic Development has actively promoted the implementation of international classes with the participation of professors and students from Vietnam and around the globe. This classroom model has brought numerous benefits to students studying at the department.
The Vietnam-US International Class was organized with the involvement of 2 professors and 15 students from Hope College (Michigan, USA), alongside faculty and students from the Department of Economic Development, University of Economics and Business - Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
During the classes, students had the opportunity to attend two captivating lectures on current economic and development policy issues. The first lecture, "PAPI - the Vietnam Provincial Governance and Public Administration Performance Index 2023," was presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Cong Chinh from the Department of Economic Development, UEB. The second lecture, "Prospects for development cooperation between Vietnam and the United States," was delivered by Prof. Stephen Smith and Prof. Jacqueline Nickel from Hope College.
In the spirit of international classrooms, students actively engaged in asking questions and participating in discussions, focusing particularly on issues related to economic data analysis and policy standards, macro issues regarding Vietnam-US cooperation, and valuable lessons learned. Through these lectures by esteemed professors, students gained deeper insights into economic development policies in Vietnam and the United States.
Reflecting on the session, student Tran Bao Ngoc from the Department of Economic Development shared, "For me, participating in this international academic exchange class is not just about expanding knowledge but also experiencing different cultures and learning from friends from other countries. The exchange of ideas and perspectives during post-lecture discussions has broadened my understanding of economic and social issues not only in Vietnam but also in the US and globally. Such classes boost our confidence as we prepare to pursue careers not only domestically but also at major international corporations and companies."
At the end of the class, Vietnamese and American students exchanged experiences about their academic journey and life experiences in university environments in both countries and visited the training facilities of the University of Economics and Business - Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
